ETHNOLOGICAL EXPEDITION MATZES

This expedition is designed for people who want to know the customs and traditions of the ethnic group that still live together in MALOCA (round house) and that they still hunt with traps and techniques inherited from generation to generation.

Get ready! your 5 senses to discover a different world and explore the Amazon in the traditional way, as the Matzes ethnic group does and participates in the TOAD CEREMONY “Kambo”.

ITINERARY

FIRST DAY: ARRIVAL IN THE BASIN OF YAVARI.

  • Arrival to the community of Angamos.
  • Free day in the community of Angamos.

* Here we start the main part of our expedition. We will learn the daily life of the Matzes natives who live with the mestizos in Colonia Angamos, we will stay in a typical Amazonian house, the bed is made of wood and covered with mosquito nets, you can shower with rainwater or river. In the evening walk to the Yavari river and enjoy the rain.

* Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and lodging at the local house.

SECOND DAY: TRAVEL BY THE GALVEZ RIVER

  • Arrival at the town of BUEN PERU. (last village Matzés).

* Early in the morning we will arrange our luggage to the boat and together with Matzes guides we will navigate the Yavari River and a tributary to the Galvez River. The river trip lasts at least 8 hours but we can stop at a Matzes community located on the river bank and enjoy their lifestyle. At night we will arrive to the community of BUEN PERU, where we will spend the night at our biker’s house.

THIRD DAY:

  • Visit to the Matzés farms.
  • Learn how cassava is harvested and grown.
  • Learn to braid the RAPISHEO (baskets to transport yucca or bananas).

* First meeting with Matzes, we will spend half a day in the community of BUEN PERU, where we can learn the life of the MATZES today.

* In the afternoon we will navigate by river again. We will enter by a small tributary of the GALVEZ river the LOBOYACU river. The trip lasts 3-4 hours. There is MALOCA MATZES upstream, which is the GOAL OF OUR TRIP. The LOBOYACU river is approximately 15 meters wide. On its shores we will observe a wonderful jungle, animals, and Amazonian birds, in the afternoon we will arrive at the MALOCA, we will find the MATZES that live there, and we will settle in the MALOCA together with the MATZES.

* Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

* Accommodation: Maloca or refuge.

FOURTH DAY TO THE SEVENTH DAY: TO LIVE IN THE MALOCA OF ETNIA MATZES.

* We will spend some days in the great Amazon rainforest along with the MATZES. We will talk with the MATZES and we will learn their culture. We can go with hunters to the jungle, some of them even hunt with bow and arrow. We will go fishing in canoes made from a single trunk, we will learn to set traps, catch alligators and if you are very lucky, even ANACONDA. At night around a campfire we will hear the story of the MATZES and their life stories.

* Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

* Accommodation: Local house.

EIGHTH DAY: RETURN TRAVEL BY THE LOBOYACU RIVER TO GOOD PERU.

* Today we are leaving the Maloca and we will navigate the Loboyacu River to Buen Peru.

* We will practice the ceremony of Tobacco.

* We will practice the SAPO “KAMBO” ceremony.

 

NINTH DAY: TRIP RETURNED BY THE GALVEZ RIVER TO ANGAMOS.

* This day we are leaving the community of BUEN PERU and we will navigate the river Galvez upstream until we reach the Yavari river and then the community of Angamos, the river trip lasts the whole day and we will have a quick lunch during the trip. We will settle down to spend the night in a local house.

* Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

* Accommodation: Local house.

 

TENTH DAY: I RETURN TO IQUITOS.

* Today we return from Colonia Angamos to Iquitos by Plane, owned by the Peruvian Air Force.
